Šibenik-Knin County Prefect Goran Pauk presented at the Brussels conference the project of Waste Management Centre Bikarac, worth nearly 200 million HRK, of which 128.5 million HRK is co-financed with the EU grants. Pauk addressed the legal framework of waste management, the share of recovery / disposal of municipal waste in the Republic of Croatia, waste management infrastructure and the development of a waste management system in Šibenik-Knin County.
“We need to go in the direction of capital-intensive development, which encompasses large investments in areas from social to the communal sector”, said Prefect Pauk, and stressed that “numerous examples from Croatia show that we are following trends and are ready to respond to the challenges bringing us to constant development.” The Bikarac project includes the construction of mechanical and biological waste treatment plants (MBOs), the construction of two waste reloading stations, the purchase of special vehicles for affordable transportation and the expansion of the separate collection scheme across the Šibenik-Knin County. Thanks to the already built waste reloading stations in Pirovac and Biskupija, a single price will be guaranteed for a single amount of all self-government units regardless of their distance from the Center or reloading stations. So far, the purchase of special vehicles for the transportation of waste and equipment worth EUR 2.1m has also been completed, explained Prefect Pauk.
